A brief overview of the CAFF Grant system
CAFF or the Charter Advocate Fund Formula is a financial system used by the Student Advocacy Union Inc. to distribute funding among the chartered Student Advocacy Unions in individual schools. The purpose of CAFF is to ensure that each Union receives an equitable amount of supplemental funds in order to promote student leadership, civic engagement, and student involvement in policy making. CAFF funds are completely up to the discretion of the SAU members to decide how to use it, but all grants made out to charters under ASBs or similar organizations are issued with a notice of donor restriction that ensures that funds cannot be transfered from the SAU account even due to inactivity.
CAFF grants are issued by Student Advocacy Union Inc. however are directly handled by the Internal Accountability department and approved by the Board of Directors. Internal Accountability processes requests for all grants made by charters, and accesses the reliability of their financial responsibility. Always make sure your student accountant is aware of the information they need to report to Internal Accountability when applying for the CAFF 2 grants!
The CAFF Calculator is a tool that can help you visualize how much money your charter can receive from the CAFF Grant, and how much money your charter may *owe in dues!
*Usually dues are eligible for waiver providing that the invoiced due is not an insubstantial amount of money from the charter's account or due to special circumstance*
As you can see on the calculator, CAFF 1 are dues owed to the regional district by charters! These funds help pay for things like stationary, subscription services, supplies, & anything that the charters use to benefit their members and their activities. These funds are due by November and charters are issued an invoice shortly after the approval of their charter.
CAFF 2 Grants are grants issued by Student Advocacy Union Inc. to charters based off of a number of variables. These grants are meant to fund SAU charter activities like town halls, recognition events, stationary, practically anything that supports SAU's values! These grants can range anywhere from $50-$600
